This is one of those pages where the artist (Remus) just NAILED it. Smiley's creepiness really came through here. In my thumbnail/script for this page (based in turn from Remus' longer script, based in turn from Lewis' synopsis) for this page, I had a lot more dialogue. Remus wisely ditched it. It wasn't needed. Lightbringer's reaction (the only one who has met Smiley face to face) is also bang-on. I also like how the garb Lewis originally put on Smiley...is funeral garb in Smiley's reality. One of my favorite pages of this series, with almost no jokes....except what Smiley's about to inflict on the multiverse. Unheard of!

Mr. Neil

I just noticed that Remus reused Al's illustration of the Technocrat's wife for the funeral photo. It blended into the picture so well, that Al didn't even notice.

Or maybe it was just that creepy smile that distracted us.
